How fees work
Insurance we work with
We are out of network, so we don't bill health plans directly. Some plans reimburse acupuncture when you send in a receipt, and others don't cover it. Your plan decides what it pays, and we can't promise an amount.
Most PPO plans: ask whether they reimburse acupuncture
Employer and marketplace plans: ask your benefits office
VA Community Care: ask your VA care team about a referral
If you pay yourself
Most visits are paid at the time of service. We tell you the fee for your first visit and for each visit after it before we begin, by phone, text or email, and we put it in writing. HSA and FSA cards can often be used: ask your plan administrator.
Receipts for reimbursement
After every visit we give you an itemized receipt, called a superbill, that you can send to your plan. Your plan decides what it reimburses. Before you send it, ask your plan:
Is there an acupuncture benefit?
How many visits does it allow?
Is there a copay or a deductible?
Do I need a referral?
An estimate in advance
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start, and we give you one in writing in advance. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract. You can read about your rights at cms.gov/nosurprises.
Checking your benefits
Because we are out of network, we can't check your benefits for you. Call your plan before your first visit and ask the questions above, then tell us what you learn.
What the first visit includes
A first visit takes about 75 minutes: a conversation, pulse and tongue reading, a treatment and a plan for what comes next. Herbs are separate, and we tell you what they will cost before you take any home.
